*MENNOCON 2021 - CINCINNATI*
1. There was an amazing effort to include those of us who were
virtual. Many of the sessions were recorded. There was a chat and a place
to take a selfie and a greeting and post it. All of the materials were
online. You can go look at them at:
https://convention.mennoniteusa.org/post-convention-resources/
2. Did you know that MCUSA has unique groups for Black Mennonites,
Native American Mennonites, Women Mennonites, Mennonite Men, Hispanic
Mennonites, Indonesian Mennonites, Each group is doing a lot of supporting
others and ministry.
3. I was moved by the native American group whose leader shared how
difficult it is to get them all together. The churches are on reservations
that are not close to anything and so to gather they have great expense and
lots of time and effort.
4. Indonesian church asked for help with $$ for getting vaccines.
5. Impression: There are lots of people doing lots of work that we are
not aware of in order to support our churches.
6. Anyone is allowed to submit a resolution to the Resolutions
committee and they will decide whether it should be studied or voted on by
the larger congregation. There were several resolutions presented which
will be discussed at a special delegate assembly May 27-30 2022 in Kansas
City.
7. One controversial resolution was mentioned. The "Resolution for
Repentance and Transformation" did not make it through the Resolutions
Committee. At this time it is not scheduled to come before delegates at the
Special Delegate Session on May 27-30, 2022. However, with new people being
elected to the Resolutions Committee and Executive Board there is the
opportunity to reconsider the resolution in time for the special session.
Austin Mennonite Church is one of the congregations signing on to the
resolution. You can read the resolution here:
https://inclusivepastors.wordpress.com/resolution/
8. Next year's meeting is in KCMO.
