Here's an update and request for volunteers from Bastrop MDS. .... Lee Lever Bastrop Unit – Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) 132 Pine Hill Loop, Bastrop, Texas Carl and Laura Dube are set up in their RV at the Bastrop MDS site since Tuesday morning this week. Here’s a brief report from them: Good evening to all, - Carl and I returned to Bastrop Tuesday morning and got our RV set into position for the next 3 months. - By this evening we have power to three of the 5 RVs, water connected to the meter and to 2 of the RVs, and water and drain lines mounted in the "kitchen". - 3 MDS trucks are to arrive tomorrow evening from Columbus, MS. - Brett Troyer is to send us plans to build the 8 bunk beds this evening or tomorrow. - Next jobs are to configure and place sewer lines from the RVs to the holding tank, build the kitchen, build back steps, complete electrical installation... Helpers are needed tomorrow and next week. Here’s the lowdown: - If there are any helpers that can come from Austin, we will be here the next two days, part of Saturday (Dec 31) and all next week (Jan 2-7). - Volunteers would report to 132 Pine Hill Loop, the MDS camp. (Used to be a private school that burned. Just off Route 71 past Bastrop about 3 miles, north side.) - Arrive at 8:30-9am any morning, earlier arrivals can be accommodated. - Do not need face masks for this phase. - We have all the tools needed. - No dress code until Jan 8. ;-) - Projects: - building the kitchen (very rough) using quite a bit of things we got from the reStore in Austin. - Next week (Jan 2-7), building bunk beds. - Still some electrical work to be done. - Need to also run 4" PVC for the sewer lines to the bunk trailers. - A variety of tasks. At this point it is Carl and Laura Dube, with Dave Bishop returning next week. Carl and Laura welcome any help.
