From my seminary colleague on the latest fighting in Jos, Nigeria...

please keep this region in your prayers...

and ask for wisdom for all responses.

Obed adamantly refuses to take up arms, living the faith in reality, not
theory.

Helen

WALKING THROUGH THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH.

We send greetings from Bukuru, near Jos.

I managed to fill the new US Visa forms yesterday. It took about 6 hours.
Many of you wrote to express your concern about the mass killing of about
500 Christians in Dogo Nahawa. Dogo na Hawa is about 7 miles from where we
live. It is in the Rayfield area for some of you know Jos area.
Soldiers are taking sides. The Nigerian army right now is divided on
religious line. That sounds very scary for the country. keep praying. It is
a time of great uncertainty and fear. We have many youth now guarding the
Church . We live one minute walk away from the Church. Our confidence right
now is in the Lord. WE have decided to buy metal detectors for the Security
officers in the Church to check all who come in these days. Many of you have
been playing Jonathan_ david to us. Jonathan went to Davivd and helped him
to find starenght in God ( 1Sam. 23.16). The encouragements we receive from
you through prayers and emails have given us great strength.
Today, thousands of Plateau women walked to Government houses and State
house of assembly with tree branches in their hands. In tears and black
dresses expressed their disappointment with the state security. On Saturday
the 6th, rumours of attack by Muslims from Bauchi was going round. It got to
the the Governor. He called the army commandant( a Muslim) in the state and
told him to send soldiers to protect the village. He did not act. He called
again by 12. mid night, he had switched off his cell phone ( the main means
of communications in Nigeria now).True to the rumours, they arrived at about
2 am and statrted the evil act. The people were taken unaware. the killers
left by about 4.00. The soldiers got there shortly after. We all believe it
was all coordinated. healing will be slow. The trauma is much. An acting
chief who prevented the Muslim from being killed last time had 10 of his 11
children killed. You can only imagine the feelings, the pain, anger, losses.
that is just one family among many families. The pastors wife and his child
was killed along the many. the sight of the mass burial evoked horror, pain
anger, and lament. The heart of human is desperately wicked.Lord, for grace
to go on. We appreciate your prayers in all this helpless situation. Your
prayers are more than a drop in the bucket.
Thank you very much
Obed
