*NEWS
Haiti* *election aftermath*
The Dec. 7 announcement of Haiti's election results has resulted in demonstrations, fires on the streets and gunshots amidst allegations of fraud. MCC representative Kurt Hildebrand wrote: "For the moment we are only watching and waiting, as the population reacts with frustration to apparent vote fraud. We are prepared to stand alongside the Haitian people as they demand real transparency from the current government and the provisional electoral council. We also are prepared to respond appropriately to ensure the safety and security of our staff, who were safe and accounted for as of Wednesday morning. Thank you for keeping us and our Haitian partners and the Haitian people in general in your prayers."
