Just a few weeks ago we unveiled AAIM's new interfaith dialogue program,
The Red Bench: Interfaith Conversations that Matter. Since then we've
received an astounding response -- over 100 members of the Austin
community have signed up to participate!
We still have some space for our first Red Bench gathering on Tuesday,
September 15th. Please join us as we explore the question, "Why is
forgiveness so hard?"

The Red Bench will take place at First United Methodist Church's Family
Life Center at the northwest corner of 13th and Lavaca, 5:30-8:30 pm. A
light vegetarian meal will be provided, and free parking is available on
the third floor of the parking garage immediately south of the Family
Life Center on Lavaca St.

years ago, when writing about the need for conversations that build
lasting relationships, Betty Sue recommended that corporations and other
organizations place red benches in their public spaces. The idea was
simple -- by sitting on one of these red benches you were signaling to
others that you were open to a conversation about something that really
matters to you. The red bench became both a symbol to underscore the
importance of conversation and an actual place where these conversations
could occur.
In that spirit, starting this fall AAIM is unveiling a new interfaith
dialogue program for Central Texas:

Interfaith Conversations that Matter

The Red Bench Conversations for the fall of 2009 will focus on the
"virtues" - aspects of human goodness that all of the world's great
faith traditions try to instill. Our first three programs will focus on
forgiveness, compassion, and gratitude respectively. However, we will be
framing the conversations in an unusual way, one that we hope leads
people to the heart of their own life-experiences. This is a free
program, and all are welcome.
