I am helping Harris Elementary School on Berkman serve some of their neediest
families. This year has been really hard for the teachers and staff as they
have a new principal, a new bookkeeper, a new registrar and 100 more kids than
projected. Families keep registering throughout the year, many from Honduras
and other Central American countries as well as from Africa. Some of the
children have never attended school and yet, the teachers are responsible for
helping them pass the STARR test!
Anyway, there are some families who still need things and I thought perhaps my
congregation at AMC could help me gather some items for Christmas. I am
expecting a list in the next couple of days from the counselor with any
specific things needed for children, and will let everyone know particulars as
soon as I get them. But in the meantime, if you are willing to help and would
like to donate a gift card to either HEB, Target, or Walmart, the families
could use those for clothes and food.
We would need donations by next Sunday as there is only one more week of school.
