Dear Friend,

Many thanks again to all who participated in AAIM's 23rd Annual Interfaith
Thanksgiving Celebration at Congregation Beth Israel. The event was a
tremendous success with over 1000 people in attendance -- standing room
only! The outpouring of support for this celebration is a testament to the
strength of the interfaith community in Austin and the vital role AAIM plays
in creating interfaith programming and dialog. Many important conversations
have grown out of this event, and we encourage you all to continue talking.

We want to thank once again Congregation Beth Israel for opening their
worship and reception space, and our gracious co-hosts for helping organize
this year's service and celebration: Central Texas Muslimaat, Forum of
Muslims for Unity, and the Institute for Interfaith Dialog.

CROP Walk for Hunger is an annual nationwide event sponsored locally by
AAIM. In 2007, walkers representing some 110 faith communities and other
organizations raised almost $122,000. Twenty-five percent of the funds
raised stay in Austin to support food needs in local agencies. The rest go
to more than 80 countries to alleviate hunger worldwide.

To make this happen, we need walkers. We need YOU! Find the CROP recruiter
in your faith organization and get registered. If you don't have a

Hope for Heroes
Serving those who serve and their families

The Samaritan Center for Counseling and Pastoral Care is launching HOPE for

members who have unmet mental health needs as a result of service in Iraq or
Afghanistan. For more information call Nancy Blaich at 512-451-7337 ext. 112

National Donor Sabbath

In November, faith communities throughout the country will observe a special
time as they unite for one cause: to increase awareness of the critical need
for organs and tissues and the miracle of transplantation. This annual
interfaith celebration of life will stress the importance of donation.
Religious leaders who participate in discussions of donation with their
congregants can affirm that choosing to be an organ and tissue donor offers
the opportunity to share the greatest blessing of all - the gift of life.

As of September 2007, more than 97,000 men, women and children were listed
on the national transplant waiting list. Donation and transplantation can
save lives, yet the need for organs far exceeds the supply. In 2006, more
than 25,000 organs were transplanted but thousands more critically ill
patients could have been helped if more organs were available. An average of
18 people die each day because an organ was not available for them.

What can you do as a faith organization or a member of the community? Here
are some ideas.

Team up with local organizations, such as the organ procurement organization
in Central and South Texas, the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance. You can reach
the Senior Community Relations Coordinator, Michelle Segovia, at
512.459.4848

Hold a donor drive to encourage individuals to sign up and discuss their
wishes with their families. Texas has a new state registry at

where people can make their wishes known.

Host a donor awareness workshop, prayer breakfast, or health fair with an
information display on donation and presentations by living donors, donor
families, transplant recipients, patients awaiting transplantation or organ
procurement organization professionals.

AUSTIN AREA INTERRELIGIOUS MINISTRIES UNITES FAITH AND CULTURAL COMMUNITIES
TO FOSTER RESPECT, PARTNERSHIP AND TRANSFORMATION IN SERVICE OF THE COMMON
GOOD.

This e-mail is a service of Austin Area Interreligious Ministries (AAIM).
Our goal is to alert Austin's faith communities as well as the "spiritually
curious" about events that may be of interest. Please note that AAIM does
not presume to endorse the events we publicize nor do we necessarily share
their faith perspective. We do, however, find these events to be worthwhile
contributions to the diverse religious and cultural fabric of our city.

You may unsubscribe at anytime, using the safe unsubscribe option at the
bottom of this e-mail. Please pass along this newsletter to your friends!
