Recently, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has sent letters to
seven women in sanctuary in Austin, Texas and elsewhere in the country. The
letters threaten massive fines and even prison for these refugees. Here in
Austin, Hilda Ramirez has been ordered to report to the Federal Building
downtown this coming Tuesday morning (Dec 17). Hilda and her young son have
been in sanctuary for several years at the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church
here in Austin. Last week Hilda was here at the Austin Mennonite Church
along with members of the Austin Sanctuary Network. She shared about the
difficulty of being confined to a church building with her son and thanked
all those who are helping her. Hilda is seeking asylum from violence in
Guatemala.
A couple events are being planned on Tuesday, Dec 17 in response to the

7:30am - a press conference at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 14311
Wells Port Dr, Austin, 78728. Please arrive early.
After the press conference a caravan of clergy and other people will be
making their way to the J.J. Pickle Federal Building, 300 E. 8th St.,
Austin.
8:45am - meet at the corner of 9th St. and San Jacinto Blvd. and walk
together through the courtyard. Some will remain outside and rally with
song and prayer while a couple of clergy will enter the building in
solidarity with Hilda for her scheduled check-in at 9 a.m.
I am planning to give my morning to these actions. You are welcome to join
me or be involved as you like. Please keep Hilda and her son and this
situation in your prayers.
