It will never wash out.
The adhesive is there to stay.
You can disperse it by reheating and you can reduce it by tranfering it to a 
pressing cloth like a paper towel.

the bestthing to do is NOT heat it so much that it over melts.

I use them all the time and I have marked the setting on my Iorn and Heat Press 
both were the backing just pulls away cleanly.

Now I dont even think about it any longer, it is second nature.
