For a modersate stictch count please see

Adding a "wet laid" non directional tearaway underneat (mesh next to shirt) 
will dramtically aid definition 

For a hiher stitch count 2 pieces of the mesh cross paterned

If you are afraid of slippage - use the low melt fusible mesh and
