Hi all, I sent this earlier, but it looks like it didn't post. Here it is again: I do free-standing lace with the Amaya. I have a Bernina Artista which has a rotary hook. The L-style bobbins are compatible with the Amaya. I use the Bernina to wind bobbins of the matching embroidery thread and had no problems using them in the Amaya. I left all bobbin controls on, too.
