In the lettering properties under the Column tab try checking the interior 
entry/exit points box and see what the results are.  It moves the tie in and 
tie offs away from the edge of the lettering and they are not so obvious.  It 
also makes it a little easier to trim if you need to because the thread is on 
top of the letter and not on the edge.
