When you insert the dongle, the computer should recognize the dongle and you
should first install the drivers for the dongle. I had this happen to me
once, since the drivers are very specific for the particular device.

I have found that I only have the computer
recognize the dongle if it's plugged into the
back of the computer, and not into any of the
front extension ports or a hub.
It may help?
