It is more of a machine setting. Everyone sets up their designs differently and also the thread tree on their machines are set with colors in different arrangments not to mention where you put a color that isn't in the standard mix that is now in the design and needs to be put on the machine. This is why even if you save the color settings with the digitized design it still needs to be set in the machine each time so that the machine knows that color "4" is red on needle "11" despite how it is represented in the digitizing. This might not be what you were talking about butif it is, once you open the design in the machine and then set the thread color list, you can re-save the design and as long as your threads locations haven't changed when you re-load the design, then the thread order that you entered will reload and be ready to go. But it is important to know what colors go where so you make sure the machine is threaded correctly. Hope this makes some sense...
