Steve, those are called "jump stitches" and there is a setting in your Design 
Shop to tell your machine when to trim...when stitch is greater than....  As 
Darlene said, inserting a trim there will do the same thing and cause a tie-off 
and tie-in which will get rid of that jump stitch.
