Hi Ron,

Two questions:

1) is the garment laying on a table or are you holding the garment by the
backing letting the garment dangle?

2) is the backing side facing you or is the garment side facing you?

Thanks - I'm going to give it a try.

Subject: [amayausers] Cutting backing Techniques

Reading Russell's post earlier reminded me of

something I was taught when I bought the business

and I have to teach everyone that is required to clean

embroidery for us, and it dawned on me there maybe

some of you out there who haven't heard of this technique

and of course others who will say, "been doing it that way for years!"

when cutting away backing, always hold the garment by the backing

let the garment hang down below and lay your scissors sideways

and cut the garment away from the backing. Work your way

around the embroidery, as you move your hand hold on the backing

to expose new uncut areas. It is hard to explain yet easy to understand

when you see it. If you will try it you will see the method and how it keeps

the garment virtually as far away from the sharp edges of the scissors

and keeps the tips, (that usually will be the culprit of holes), away from

the garment themselves. The hardest part of the technique is at the end

when you reach the point that you first started cutting, as you finish the

cut just make sure you are working over a table or chair or anything

that will catch the garment and keep it off the floor, which will make even

more work for you.

I've never nicked a garment using this method, and have a lot of

shop shirts that are the results of me not using this method.

Try it out, hope it helps someone.
