Even signshops (like me) dread the customer that walks in and throws down a
business card thinking that it is 'ready to use' artwork. The majority of
business cards are printed with 'thermo ink', an additive in the ink that
'puffs' a little as it dries and gives the ink a depth you can feel and see.
Absolutely the worst nightmare to use for artwork. Scan it, blow it up, and you
can see how there isn't even straight lines-it is all jagged and lumpy-that's
the thermo ink. Most of the time I can track down where the business card came
from and get the original artwork (all the local 'printshops' work with me),
and if it was an online print job-chances are good it is basic clip art-I have
CD's full of clipart by the gazillion images. If all else fails, I charge them
by the hour to recreate it!
