Herb began playing the ukulele at age 3.His father, the great ukulele master Ohta San, gave Herb formal lessons from an early age.By age 11, Herb taught at his father’s ukulele school.In 1992, Herb started his own ukulele classes.

Herb began his recording career in 1990.He has recorded more than 50 recordings.He has been nominated for Na Hoku Hanohano Awards 14 times, and won it in 2011, 2013, 2015, and, this year, 2018.Herb is also a four time Hawai’i Music Award winner.

Herb has co-authored two ‘ukulele instructional books with Grammy Award artist Daniel Ho, as well as a songbook of his arrangements.

For ukulele fans who prefer unpretentious technical proficiency over theatrics, Herb Ohta Jr. is the undisputed master ukulele instrumentalist of his generation.Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from and experience what Herb is offering to us.Herb has also generously agreed to give us discounts from his normal charge for lessons and workshops.

*_Private Lessons_*: Herb is offering one on one one-hour private lessons in the home Herndon in which he is staying.Possible dates and times are Monday and Tuesday evenings, October 8 and 9, 2018, and days and evenings on Wednesday through Friday, October 10-12, 2018.Herb will charge $70 per private lesson session.His normal charge is $150 for a one hour private lesson.Please contact Glen Hirabayashi by replying to this email to schedule a private lesson.

*_Workshops_*:

Intermediate, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2018: Herb will teach a song.

Intermediate / Advanced:Herb will teach multiple finger picking patters, arpeggios, and Hawaiian vamps picked (not strummed) and how to use them.

Herb will charge $30 per workshop instead of his usual $35, or $50 for both workshops.

*_Potluck Pupus_*will be served at 6:00 p.m. Please free to bring a dish to share.We will provide drinking water, cups, plates, bowls, utensils, and napkins.

*_Concert_*: The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m.Herb is asking $20 to attend the concert.As a super special, Herb has agreed to charge $60 for attending both workshops and the concert.

All payments may be made to Herb when you arrive for lessons, workshops, and/or concert.
