Interesting to note there was a flier just feet away from the tower when it
impacted but they don’t seem to notice how close it was.
For those wondering why the tower crashed and the capsule landed so hard – it’s
was the price I paid for trying to put a larger chute into the tower to slow
down the decent. It got stuck in the tube and didn’t deploy – ironically that
did the opposite of what I wanted.
Because of that failure, the tower was still on the capsule when the capsule’s
recovery system tried to deploy those chutes. This interfered with the
deployment of the capsule’s main and likely contributed to that getting snarled
in its own shrouds. The pilot chute did inflate and that saved the capsule
from more significant damage.
Anyway – a more full report to come.
