Hello ACWE and friends,
We've enjoyed seeing many of you (virtually) during our Spring Masterclass
series! We know that, for many, the sharing of information and conversion
during these classes has been something to look forward to while we await
our eventual return to in-person rehearsals. We are now down to the final
three masterclasses of the season:
- *March 30: Dr. Baruch Whitehead:* associate professor of music
education at Ithaca College
- *April 6: James Allder:* Grammy Quarterfinalist music educator
- *April 20: Chastine Hofmeister:* clarinet professor at Collin
College and second clarinetist with the Monroe and Longview Symphony
Orchestras
This week's class will be presented by Dr. Whitehead. He is the founding
director of the Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers, which is dedicated to the
preservation of the Negro Spiritual. He also founded the Orff-Schulwerk
certification program, a music education program that views music as a
basic system like language. He is also the past Director of the annual Orff
Certification Training Course at Boston University. His other areas of
expertise include diversity in music education; gospel music and its
preservation within mainstream musical settings; African-American music;
and the music of the Civil Rights Movement. More information about Dr.
