Morning all,
Here are some updates for you:
Autumn events programme:
- 'Active Travel is Good Business: The Best Employer Walking and Cycling
Schemes' on 9 October in London is open for registration. The room is paid
for by City of London but we need to cover tea/coffee.
- 'Travel Demand Management for Major Events' was going to be 18 Sept in
Birmingham. Ten delegates had registered. Our Regional Reps decided to
postpone as they felt it needed more like 20 delegates.
- 'Transforming Public Transport in Leeds' is going ahead on 18 Sept with
currently 21 delegates. The partnership with TPS has helped with numbers.
Their members also get free places. I've proposed this model for the
Midlands as well.
- 'Travel Planning for Universities and Hospitals' we'd like to hold in
November at AECOM in London. Richard Adams would be the lead presenter. He
is asking AECOM's permission and exploring room availability. We'd need a
university speaker and a hospital speaker (Rui?) as well.
- Business Event with a Public Transport Theme - North Bristol SusCom would
host in November. We're currently making plans.
Annual Conference Jan 2019:
- We've got an open call for papers, sponsors and exhibitors. SYSTRA will be
a lead sponsor. The attached spreadsheet has companies to approach, which
I'm now working on. Some of the contacts in the spreadsheet are old, but
I've added a lot more including all Smarter Travel LIVE! 2018 exhibitors.
The floorplan for exhibitors is also attached. I'll need to get the contacts
into HubSpot.
- Chris Boardman isn't available as a keynote. We need to confirm 1-2
keynotes soon, to help with promotion.
- More updates soon.
TravelWise Week
- It's next week, so help with social media would be appreciated. There are
7 local authorities signed up so far. Don Kent has prepared a table with
what each of them are planning, which I'll be highlighting in comms.
- I updated the poster templates online, based on Illustrator files from
last year that I received from Diva.
Board Invites
- Sean Ford of WSP, Marilyn Healy of WYCA and Arun Khagram of MP Smarter
Travel have expressed an interest in potentially joining the Board. They
have been invited as observers on 25 September. Sean isn't sure he can
attend, but Arun has accepted. Marilyn has just emailed as I write this, so
I'll read that in a minute.
- At the same time, Becca, Prea and Andy have been waiting to leave the
Board, so this will be done ASAP with Companies House via Chris Dixon.
Charity Registration
- As you've seen, our 'representation' following an initial negative
decision has not succeeded in changing the Charity Commission's view. There
is still a lack of clarity in terms of the public benefit of our work and
the orientation towards member (private) benefits. They also raised some new
points about not understanding the environmental benefit of travel planning,
although demonstrating this would seem easier than addressing some of the
other points. One for discussion on Monday...
