Hey Bill, I sent you an email to you yahoo address today regarding the SIG site. Just wondering if you picked it up. Thanks! I will just reiterate some of these things she mentioned. If you plan to put a link to other websites, you SHOULD gain permission. Simply linking from your site to another is not a violation of any copyright laws, but it is good etiquette to do so simply because the other webmaster might want to reciprocate, or may not be expecting the increased traffic. If you plan to PULL and icon from another website and put it on yours for others to use to get to another website, you SHOULD MOST DEFINITELY get permission as this constitutes using items from another website. Some sites actually encourage using items from their site. It is best to ask though if not given prior permission. It is best to put only ONE hit counter on your site. This is usually done on the main page which most people will be directed to anyway when coming to your site initially. You COULD put other counters on, but it might look tacky and it could cause confusion. As for site statistics, there is a way (I can't remember how right now but will check on it) to have a page that will give you timely site statistics. The usual way to do this though is through the publishing wizard which has a report feature in it. I will have to check on how comprehensive that feature is though. I assume you want to know about monthly access, etc. to the site. If other I will have to look into that as well. When it comes to long pages there are a couple of ways to approach this. It is generally advisable to NOT have really long pages as in if the page is more than a couple screen pages long, it is better to break it up into other pages. If the page is two to three pages long, then you can put "bookmarks", or "targets" into the document and give users the ability to jump to a location in the document with the links at the top of the page (a type of linked index), and/or jump back to the top of the page from within the document. --- Diane Quick <dianeq@xxxxxxxx> wrote: > I can help with a couple of questions. > Yes, you need to obtain permission before linking to another website. > Write to their webmaster and when you get it, put it in a folder for > permissions. > > You can put a hit counter on your website.
