Hi everyone, I hope you are managing to stay safe and sane at home. Not
surprisingly, there was a fair amount of coronavirus-related discussion in the
ANZAGG facebook group this month. Please see below or attached for details.

Magnetic drawing boardwith metal balls. Useful for touch readers or are the
holes too far apart?
Comments:
- We got ours online from https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000015162417.html
- We have one, but mostly use it as a drawing tool and activity that
students can use independently, not for Braille instruction.
- Thanks. I didn't even think of using it for braille - my (sighted) kids
did it!
- I’m curious about how easily the balls drop back down if a student is
running their hands over say a shape drawn on the board.
- I wondered about that too. The balls do drop back down if you press them
too hard, so a soft touch is required.
- Funny I played with one for first time last week and immediately thought
of Braille but I felt it was just a touch too sensitive to touch to be very
useful educationally but still might be quite entertaining for VI as well as
sighted kids. But maybe I was just a bit heavy handed.
- Agreed. It is not perfect but worth adding to our kit of easy tactile
drawing tools.

Google provided anexcellent animation today honouring Ignaz Semmelweis and
demonstrating goodhandwashing technique. But it is entirely visual. In our
haste to shareinformation about COVID-19, are the vision impaired community
missing out? What information/support is most urgent?

Comments:
- I think yes L
- I thought the exact thing and wondered if there was Alt text to go with it.
- Handwashing technique, as per WHO recommendations
(https://www.who.int/gpsc/clean_hands_protection/en/):
0. Wet hands with water
1. Apply enough soap to cover all hand surfaces
2. Rub hands palm to palm
3. Right palm over back of left hand with interlaced fingers, and vice versa
4. Palm to palm with fingers interlaced
5. Back of fingers to opposing palms with fingers interlocked
6. Rotational rubbing of left thumb clasped in right fist, and vice versa
7. Rotational rubbing, backwards and forwards with clasped fingers of right
hand in left palm, and vice versa
8. Rinse hands with water
9. Dry thoroughly with a single use towel
10. Use towel to turn off tap
11. ... and your hands are safe.
