unfortunately, it is already on default, and the only other options for
keyboard layout are laptop, vocal-eyes, and jaws.

Not sure if this would affect things, but try changing keyboard layout to
standard keyboard in settings. It may help it to treat it as a standard setup.
Not sure if this is the right solution, but worth a go.
