Hi,
I would second John's advice other than to suggest trying Seeing AI before
buying KNFB Reader, as it is free. Even if you ultimately decide to use KNFB
Reader for documents, Seeing AI has many other features which you might find
useful in their own right, e.g. bar code scanning and light and colour
detection.
If I'm doing OCR on a phone (usually when I'm out and about) I tend to just use
whichever of the two apps I find first! And if it doesn't give me good results
I'll try the other one.
At home I mostly use OpenBook with the Pearl Camera because that's what DSA
bought me before OCR on a smart phone was a viable option and I'm a creature of
habbit. It does do a fantastic job though, and if you're not in a hurry, there
will probably be a substantial discount in the summer to coincide with Sight
Village. The OCR fecilities in recent versions of JAWS can also use the Pearl,
although I find OpenBook still gives me better results.
The Pearl and OpenBook are about £600 each, so £1200 for the whole package, but
you could just buy the Pearl separately and see how you get on. Discounted I've
seen OpenBook as low as £100 and the Pearl as low as about £250.

If you have an IPhone I recommend buying a physical device called a Giraffe and
an app called the KNFB reader. The Giraffe positions your phone at a good
height and keeps it stable and and the KNFB reader takes pictures of your
documents and reads them to you, and all for under a hundred pounds.
Hope this helps, John.

Simplest solution please.
I want to be able to check my daily mail; of which there seems to be more
than ever.
Would like the simplest solution.
I.Edd letter arrives and I stick it under a device which reads it to me
quickly.
That's it really.
