I'd use mine but have lost the software and it crashed on me some while back. If anyone is willing to let me have a copy of the software which will definitely install to go with my box, I'd be more than happy! <Smiles>

Why don't you use the nebula usb box or card this can still be bought and works I haven't used mines for recording yet but it does work. Due to the medication I have to now take for the pain in my back and leg, I often sit down to watch the evening news and Emmerdale or Coronation Street, or the Champions League match. But I invariably drift off to sleep and wake up after the event, or part way through it. I don't care if I've missed anything though as I can live without soaps and get football results elsewhere. But my point is that I don't have a recorder to run if I really wanted to see something particular like a punch-up or handbags at dawn type thing, (big grin), so am going to wait for something reasonably priced and accessible before I take the plunge. Wise move Mrs P! (smiles). We're learning to live without recording and just catch up where we can and miss stuff if we don't, but it shouldn't have to be like this. ... Anyway, Jackie, thanks for your observations. -- Carol P ---- Original Message ---- From: "Jackie Cairns"<jackie.cairnsplace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To:<access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, April 11, 2011 9:02 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: portset box compared to that sold by RNIBHi Carol As far as I am aware, and from the understanding I took from an event I attended some time back now, there are two issues or threads running here. Firstly, there are two Portset boxes, one a Freeview recordable box costing about £620. The other is a stand-alone Digital Media Centre which encompasses DAISY, DVD and, if the broadcaster caters for it, Teletext. I understand the cheaper of the two devices has an EPG and speaks everything. But £620 for a talking Freeview box that records? Hmmm! Secondly, on the other subject of a talking recordable Freeview box coming out like the one RNIB has just released, I too heard that a recordable portion would be added to it this year, which is why I have hung off buying the current talking model from them. I would love the Portset Media Centre, but feel it is too expensive. I am not a huge TV watcher, I don't read DAISY audio books, so it would be a wasted investment for me all things considered. Not sure if I've clarified this correctly, so perhaps Graham of Portset could do that for you. Could anyone with the Portset box please give their view as to how well it really works, please? Is there a way of updating the box with firmware (from a distance or by returning it to Portset) once purchased? Is there a limit to how many recordings you can set in any one week, apart from the obvious limit of hd space? It seems to me that it's a pretty hefty price so I'd want to know if it's really worth it! I am glad I have my RNIB goodmans box on the way but I feel one feature it is missing is perhaps that of the listings of purely programs with AD in the EPG, could this also be implemented in to the RNIB box? Recording though is a feature that I think would bring us some way to being a real part as visually impaired viewers of the digital community in one form at least. ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq No virus found in this incoming message.
