I've been driven mad by this problem of some pen drives not working on my main computer which is now around four years old. On the other machine, configured for audio and a year or so younger than this machine, I don't have problems at all with pen drives not working. Wonder if anyone can point to a software patch for Sandisc USB drives? Seems that their is something different about newer drives from sandisc and others where this hardware issue has become important. Now when I insert pen drives I get an install new hardware dialogue, which I'm convinced shouldn't happen, After going through the install new hardware dialogue, the damned pen never works in the machine. Worked on her husband's PC, but was unreadable on hers. It boiled down to the USB controller chip in her PC manufactured by VIA. We did a search of the pen drive manufacturer's site, where we found the answer. Indeed they provided a special program which we installed, that cured the problem. We've seen similar problems with the USB Book Courier, again usually caused by VIA interface problems.
