Hi Trace,
Almost immediately. We do much of our on-line shopping with Asda and most
of Asdas stuff is recognised as well as well-known brands including
non-foods. My Partner Neesie loves it as it usually recognises lotions and
bath and shower gels and so on.
As I say, it's not perfect but we would struggle without it. We do use tap
tap see and we use a lot of penfirend lables once the items have been
identified so that between the three devices we very very rarely need eyes
to look see.
I particularly like it because it's a big device and has a big lens that
points down so it's easy to scan an item, like a can or a box as you turn it
around in order for the device to scan thoroughly.
So there's my pitch, smile.
Let us know if you need any more info.
Jim and Neesie.

how long does it take for the galaxy to retreave the info from its database
once you scan a barcode and you say that a lot of items are already in the
database, would you say that' most well known brands are covered then from
the larger supermarkets

Hi Steve and Trace et al,
We have the latest Id-mate Galaxy and our experience is that it does a
pretty damn good job. Ok, if the bar code info isn't in it's data bass
then
you get an "item not found" but with lots of
brands the info is there and mostly not just the name of the product but
additional info as well, sometimes quite scarey e.g. when you see what's
in
those cheesie biscuits, smile.
Also if you get the "item not found" message you can record your own
description. Once recorded when the Galaxy comes across the same bar code
again, the product info is played. Our local co-ops bar codes never work
but now that we're building up the database, it gets easier.
It's not perfect and when necessary we resort to tap tap see.
I think it's worth the money and worth the effort of building your own
database.
Jim and Neesie.

Trace,
Why not use what you already have, your iPhone? Just buy the Digit-Eyes
app
and you're good to go.
All the best
Steve

what exactly are you looking to do?
upgrade your old model, or try to get a UK database that will work with
it?

hi
i have a very old i d mate its a very clunky thing with a control box and
the scanner attached via a cable, its very old and takes forever to
identify
any barcodes i scan, i can't scan purchjased groceries in it unless i've
done it manually.
i believe that the newer ones have their own database of items that can be
identified just by scanning the item when you've purchased it and don't
have
to manually enter the details for the item first
does anyone know what i'm talking about and if so can they point me in the
direction of where to go from here
thanks
