Firmware is not like a computer operating system, they are usually very
closely tied to the hardware configuration of the device itself. Even
things like the new volume controls have to be implemented in software on
the new machines, this would easily make it incompatible with your older
player. It may even be that the size of the new firmware may not fit onto
the ROM chips of the older players. In any case it is not a good idea to
experiment with firmware not specifically designed for the unit you are
using.

RE: [access-uk] firm ware.Hi Andrew, sorry to say, I have the older type
player. Why can the firm update not be used on the older type Victor
Classic.

  Hi Billy,

If you have one of the newer players, then the update is applicable to
you. These are the players with buttons and not knobs to choose speed,
volume etc. If you have the older player with knobs, do not even think of
using this update:

  http://www.visuaide.com/update/victorupdateclas102.en.html

If you have the older player, it is on firmware 2.2.4, which most people
have as its a year or two old now. It can be obtained from:

  http://www.visuaide.com/update/victorupdateclas100.en.html

There is a new version of the firmware which will be coming out soon for
the older player.

Note as I said on the daisy-users list, its only available in American
prompts currently since the UK prompts have not been updated to reflect the
changes.

  Andrew.
