Hi Brendan,

No, just download and install the compatibility pack for Office and it will
allow 2007/2010 docx files to be opened in 2003. Link:

Subject: [access-uk] can't open a word document

Hi,
I am writing on behalf of a friend who has a word document which is in
office 2007 on a vista machine. The problem now is that she has a XP
machine with office 2003 and it won't let her open it, does this mean that
she will have to up grade to office 2007 or is there another way around
this.Hope that someone can help her out. All the best Brendan
