Tris,If you have a direct face plate in the house that the router plugs into you dont' need the micro filters.
I think this is called a something 2000, sorry to be so vaig. We got one fitted on SSunday to put all the phones on extensions and the ruter direct to the telphone connection and the engineer took the micro filters saying we didn't need them after this was installed.

Hook the home hub to a point without a filter it just won't work. Hook a phone up to a point with no filter you may hear hiss on the analogue line.
BTW: I don't own a BT Home Hub, but all it is really is a fancy wireless router with some other bits tacked on.
