Subject: [access-uk] Windows Restarting after Automatic Updates

Hi all.

I've just posted this tip to my blog and thought many here might find it also useful.

Text follows.

First of all, Happy Easter to the lot of ya!

Here we go with our first tip in a while.

It surely can't be just me that's bugged by that annoying dialog box that pops up after certain Windows Updates are applyed. you know the one that says, "Updating your computer is almost complete. You must restart your computer for the updates to take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?
".

If you click restart later it pops up again ten minutes later.

I want, to, restart, my, computer, when, I, want, too!

And now I can.

Here's a quick fix.

1. Click on start.
2. Click on run.
3. Type cmd.
4. Click ok.
5. type,
"net stop wuauserv".
*without the quotes*
6. Hit enter.

This stops the windows update service. Which will be restarted again once you reboot your computer at your convenience.

There is a more involved and permanent process that can be found here
