Hi Amro.

Yep just delete the folder and shortcut on the desktop and you'll be fine. try redownloading the file if it continues to be corrupted. It shouldn't be corrupt.

cheers,

Mo.

Hello Mo,

Thanks a lot for taking the trouble. When extracted it I got a message saying that some files were corrupted though it looks to have been extracted just fine. I'll set it up in the next few days and let you know how I get on. Because it's the portable version so to uninstall I would just delete the Thunderbird folder from my Personal Folder, right? I'm still learning Windows 10 and I'm not sure whether it handles portable applications differently from previous versions of Windows.

Thanks once more.

Amro

Hello Amro.

here's my version of thunderbird. Please note that after installing
updates, if it still does not behave please let me know and i'll send
you a custom version.
changes made to optimize thunderbird include:

* UK English dictionary was set as default for spell checking.
* display homepage on startup option was disabled.
* disabled the option to check for updates automatically.
* the portable version of thunderbird was used as its easier to backup
and deal with generally.

First, you need to download and save the file from the following link,
click open on the page that comes up to start the download:

After saving the file, press enter on it to start the install process. A
WinRar dialogue box will be displayed informing you that thunderbird is
being extracted. when the extraction is complete, you will have a
ThunderbirdPortable icon on your desktop. Thunderbird has been
successfully installed to your user profile folder in windows.

Go to the desktop and press enter on Thunderbird portable to launch the
program. When the program opens, shift tab twice to get to use my
existing email account and press enter.
enter your name, email address and password and click continue.
Wait from 30 seconds to a minute for thunderbird to find and configure
your email settings automatically.
finally, press tab to done and press enter.
You will now be in the thunderbird main window. tab until you hear tree
view and your account name. arrow to the right until you hear inbox. the
messages should start to come in at this point. Press F8 to turn off the
reading preview payne which can slow things down for jaws. tab once to
the filter these messages box and press escape to close it.
Finally, go to the help menu and go to check for updates, you'll need to
install the latest updates for windows 10. follow the instructions on
the screen that comes up, restarting thunderbird when prompted to do so
by clicking on the restart button.
Congratulations. you have now set thunderbird up for use. Please refer
to the following guide for more information on how to proceed. Note that
if the guide opens in your browser as text, use the save as option in
the file menu to save a copy.
