Justin,

Thanks for this information. I'll try and put it to some good use when I'm writing the stylesheets.

Hi Tink,

I see now. Let me think, several combinations work for me well.

I find font style sans serif fonts work great for me. Anything like Arial or Verdana. Times New Roman is a pain to try and read.

Backgrounds and font colours. Dark back grounds are best and light coloured fonts. Dark blue back, yellow font,
mid green back, black text works as well.
any dark background with white text. if the text is black, a much lighter background is best. However illuminous backgrounds are not good. They are just too bright then and produce excess glare.

Tables and frames are quite good for me if the site is full of info. If things are sectioned off, I can concentrate on that section alone and, move along to the next section.

Hope this is useful.

Justin

Justin,

I'm developing different stylesheets to control the look and feel of my web site. Each visitor to the site will be able to select the colour scheme or layout of the site that they prefer.

To this end, I'm interested in finding out what combinations of colours work best for different people. The elements of the site that can be changed in colour are:

*Page background.
*Default text.
*Headings.
*Trimmings, borders etc.

What colours do you find work best in terms of contrast?

Tink.

Hi,

What does this relate to? I ask as, contrast is a big deal for me too. I find what I can see depends on the colour combination of both fonts and background colours.

I haven't seen the original post to this I'm afraid.

Hi Tink

I find the middle range of blue best, not too dark and not too light

Just my personal preference, others may well think differently depending on the quality of their vision.

Tony
Best wishes to all on the list

Tony,

Thanks for your input. Does the shade of blue make any difference? Is darker better than lighter blue?

Hi Tink

I tend to like yellow on blue. It does not really matter to me whether it is bright yellow or a cream colour but I find the contrast between the yellow and blue very effective and easy to see.

Just my viewpoint, others may well have different ideas.

Afternoon,

I'm wanting to put together some different stylesheets for my web
site, so that anyone who visits the site will be able to select one that
suits their reading style, taste and technology the best.

I would be interested to hear which colour combinations people with
low vision find particularly useful. I know much of the theory, what I'm
looking for now is how it works in practice.

For example, I know that some people find that a dark background is
easier to read, but is there any preference for black over navy blue or
grey?

What colour text is prefered over one of those dark backgrounds?
Yellow is popularly suggested, but is pale yellow easier to see than bright
yellow, or is another combination better altogether?

Below is a list of the elements on my page which can be changed in
colour:

*Background.
*Text.
*Headings.
*Links, visited links and the current page link.
*Trimmings, such as borders.

If anyone has a particular combination that would work for all or
some of those elements, it would help me put together some stylesheets that
support many more people.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Tink.
