Barry, while in a book, look for "Audio settings" top centre of the screen,
and swipe up or down to adjust the speed of the mp3.

Hi all
Got to say, the Voicedream app is great with Dropbox for putting audio books
on the iPhone. Works like a dream, if you'll excuse the pun.
However, although I can find out how to change the speech rate of the built
in TTS, I can't find anything that will change the playback speed of MP3's.
Any help welcome on this.
