Actually, depending on the phone model, the enhanced could be more sluggish,
because it takes up more memory.

Hi Phil.
In the VoiceOver Speech settings, have you ensured that you have one of the
enhanced voices selected? It sounds like you have the smaller, lower
quality default voice selected and that is causing your problem.

Since updating my IPhone 5 to IOS 9.3.2 I have had problems with Voice Over.
Its very jittery and stutters and sounds as though it has a cold.
I checked the setting which corrected the problem for a while but it has now
returned.
Does anyone else have this issue and if so please let me know how to rectify
it. I do not have any problem with my IPod 6 on version 9.3.2.
