Hi Martin
Thanks for this. I have downloaded FTP Explorer and like the look of this.
However, I'm still having the same problem. If I look at the permissions of
the file I upload, or even of the parent directory, next to Owner it says 4,
then the Read and Write boxes are ticked, next to Group it says 4 and the
Read and Write boxes are ticked, and next to Others it says 4 and as far as
I can remember just the Read box is ticked - but I might be wrong there!!
Does this bear any relation to the problem?

I use ftp explorer to upload my files.
you can get this from:
www.jfwlitee.com
this is similar to windows explorer in layout and is easy to use. you just
keep the files on your hd, and when you want to publish them, enter the ftp
info into ftp explorer, then hit connect. hit file then upload, navigate to
the file you want to publish and then hit enter on it, there it is,
