I would suggest that the first thing to try is to remove the battery
completely from the Trek for about 10 seconds and then re-insert the battery
and try and see if that fixes anything.
There is a common bug with the Trek after updates that a GPS Initialisation
error occurs. This has always been fixed by removing and re-inserting the
battery for me. Count to 10 though to make sure that the trek completely
discharges.
If that does not fix anything I would suggest that you should try re-installing
the Firmware.
Do this by, on your PC going to
http://support.humanware.com/en-united_kingdom/support/victor_reader_trek
Assuming that you are in the United Kingdom.
Select the country and Voice package you require and download the UPG file
you require.
Take your SD card out of your Trek and copy this file to the root of your Trek
SD card.
Turn off your Trek and then insert the Power cable.
Reinsert the SD card and turn on your Trek.
Hopefully this will initiate the firmware install again.
There is a risk that the Trek may tell you that it already has this latest
version and refuse to install.
There is a reset key sequence which I could look up for you but personally
if you hit this problem I would recommend another course. This may not be
HumanWare advice but it has worked for me on VR devices.
The workaround I have used in the past to force the VR devices to re-install
the software is to basically temporarily use another country /language. I would
make sure it is an English voice though so you can follow the update properly
on the Trek.
You need to select from the download page another country/ voice variant
upgrade package - for example a USA firmware variant to temporarily overwrite
the existing Firmware.
Your Trek should definitely overwrite your existing firmware now if it thinks
you want to change country.
Complete this process.
Now with a different country firmware installed you can re-copy across to the
Trek the original UK firmware upgrade package you downloaded. You could then
overwrite the USA Variant and return to the original UK version you want.
Once having hopefully a clean firmware install on your machine you should get a
notification to update your maps.
use the 2 8 4 and 6 keys to navigate through all the maps you want - use the
Favourite key above the 3 key to de-select all the ones like for Albania that
you do not need.
Press confirm when finished and the Trek should finish updating.
Hope that helps.

switched the device on this morning, and I really needed it to day as
well and to my horror nothing seems to work with the GPS any more. I
thought I heard a message this morning about out side map perimeter
