Hi all.
I purchased a high end Dell tower for £1500, 2 years ago.
At eh time of purchase I got a 1 year Maintence agreement.
A couple of days, before this agreement ran out, around April, I got a message
from Dell, offering me 1 extra year coverage for £115.
I took advantage of this offer and thank goodness I did.
Around the end of April, the sound card started collapsing after about 5
minutes.
Neither JAWS or audio content could be heard.
I wrote to this list as there many experienced computers here and George gave
quite a good reason as why this was happening.
Hower George and everyone else was wrong.
In my agreement it states if my computer fails and is too difficult to repair ,
I'd get a brand new, same unit replacement, or a home visit from an engineer.
As I live way up here in Kilcreggan, I got telephone access to an engineer.
Suppose this makes sense to them.
Well, I spoke to about 5 engineers over the next 2 weeks, Asians all of them
and lovely, lovely people indeed.
They eventually identified a possible conflict between my Motherboard and
Graphic card.
They arranged a pick up a few weeks ago and it arrived back here on Friday.
I've not fully installed all my stuff as I wanted to test it out first.
So I've Got JAWS 20 and Winamp installed and since Friday evening, it's been
running absolutely fine.
My system involves an AV unit, so I've got an HDMI running from the computer
another to the monitor and one from the monitor, I think, back to the AV.
JAWS running at the same time was over-pressing the computer.
So Dell have replaced both my motherboard and Graphic card.
Despite all the hasstel surrounding this issue, I feel that is very important
to get an additional warranty when purchasing a computer and you'd do worse
than choosing a Dell model.
