Hi Terry,
Another thing you could do in passing when talking to those companies is to
encourage them to go out and get NVDA and/or the demo version of Jaws, so that
they can get the experience of switching off the screen and listening to their
websites. It's paid dividends here.
Best,
Clive

Terry,
Re question 1, perhaps point them to
https://www.w3.org/WAI/intro/accessibility.php
where there seems to be quite a lot of info.
Re question 2, how about taking a look at the tutorial prepared by Freedom
Scientific (I think you're a JAWS man)? The link is here:

Subject: [access-uk] Two questions about promoting accessibility
Like everyone on this list I'm sure, I often come across Websites and apps that
are partly or wholly inaccessible - shouldn't happen, but it does, so what
should we do when we come across specific examples? One of the reasons I don't
pursue this with the individual supplier as often as I should is that I might
not have enough technical know-how to get across to them what the problem is
and how they should go about sorting it out. So, two
questions:
(1) Is there a good source of practical guidance that I can point techies to if
they are unfamiliar with accessibility issues but willing to learn; and
(2) What are the most useful resources I could use myself to learn enough
really basic technical stuff to understand the issues and talk the right
language?
I realise the second question in particular is a bit open ended but . any
suggestions welcome.
Terry
