fair enough John. Thing is, RNIB on thier product guides etc say that the lower price is ex vat and maybe they should say that it's for individuals. then perhaps we all wouldn't have crossed wires. Thanks for explaining.

Jill.

My assumption was due to the lack of vat exemption forms, on the "sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander" principle. Given the requirement for vat exemption form completion by companies such as those I've mentioned I assumed that were vat not being charged the RNIB would do likewise. Although in this particular instance it was a wrong assumption it would be equally wrong for the impression to be given that the RNIB don't charge VAT to blind customers. It all depends on what the product is. They sell many products which wouldn't be vat exempt. In such cases vat is charged.
                   John.

Yes John. that's all correct, and yes I have had to fill out vat excemption
forms for other companies. so pardon me for asking, but why then did you
tell people here they were getting the prices wrong, when the price without vat is what most of us individuals (for that is what we are, not corporative
reps) will be paying?

Jill.

Hi Ibrahim, I likewise have spoken to the RNIB and no, they don't charge
VAT to blind customers. That is because they are known to the Inland
Revenue as an organisation selling to blind people.
However small access companies are not so known to inland revenue, so
forms are completed. If you've ever bought anything from Humanware or
Sight and Sound that would be the case.
Also remember that VAT exemption only applies to items made exclusively
and specificly for blind people.
                    John.

Hi John.

I've just spoken to customer services. They've just confirmed to me that
I'm not paying VAT on the device and its accessories. Please check your
facts before making statements like this as its apt to cause confusion and
increase list traffic which benefits nobody.

All the best, Ibrahim.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Imbrihim, yes you do, unless you complete an exemption form. More or
less everything we buy, including aids and access gadgets attract VAT.
                   John.

Hi John.

Ahem, but we or at least I don't pay VAT as far as I know and nor does
any
other blind individual purchaser.

Ibrahim, you're quoting the price excluding vat.

Hi Carol.

Not madleen but can answer your question. You get 380 labels in a pack,
they cost £9.99 each and there are two packs available at the moment
with
the potential to have more. The only thing you should be aware of is
that
you can't have more than one of each pack, this is because the labels
are
identically coded in each pack however I don't think RNIB will stand
still
on this, they'll pump out as many packs as demand expects, confident
that
they can make money on this.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Madleen,

How much are the replacement labels and how many in a pack, please?
(Just
wondering how cheaply they're going to work out.)

I can't wait for mine!

I ordered yesterday and was told it would be seven days ... then I
heard
the stock was off to Site Village and these orders would have to wait.

Are you able to clarify what the situation is, please? Some of us
can't
get to Sight Village and it's a shame if we have to go to the back of
the
queue when we've already placed an order ...

Hi Pauline,

The main differences are that the Voila has an upper
limit of 250 labels, whereas there are thousands of
unique labels for the PenFriend; the Voila needs a
technique for scanning labels that some people find
difficult to acquire, but you need just to touch the
label with the point of the Penfriend; you can back up
your voice tags with the PenFriend if you wish; and the
PenFriend is around a third of the price of the Voila.
