any difference so I will try your suggestion.

I don't suspect Talkback, I think it may be your text to speech engine.
Have you updated Google TTS lately?
You will for sure need sighted help, but:-
1. Go into Text To Speech Settings, either from the global context menu, or
from Settings, Accessibility.
2. Find Google TTS and select Text To Speech Settings.
3. Select Install Voice Data.
4. Select English United Kingdom.
Now where it says Male and Female, select Download, as it may have been
cleared with a TTS update. Choose the one you want. So if you click
Download on Male, it will download and within a few seconds, you'll have a
talking tablet again. If it doesn't talk, restart the device.
It's only because you didn't keep the text to speech engine up to date.
It's a shame Google don't have a rescue plan for this, but they don't.

Hi. Since the latest update to talk back! I'm no longer getting speech on my
