is your clock one of the earlier ones?
If so you will find a rectangular rubber insert in the short side
opposite to the volume control.
If so, remove the rubber bung and you will find two pins.
These replicate the push button on the front side.
If you carefully short these out, the time will be spoken.
Repeat this and see if the symptoms are the same as pressing the button
on the front.
If so, try George's solution.
If not, then you have a mechanical problem
in this case, then you will need to find a little eastern chap with
about 6 pairs of hands as the mechanical construction is complex.
