I'm 99.9% sure the screen-language thing is dolphin-specific. I remember it well from using Hal around 7 years ago. Interesting. You can't do that with JAWS! ----- Original Message ----- From: simon <mailto:simodowl@xxxxxxxxxxx> dowling To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2005 1:04 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Screenreaders in other languages. hi yes you will have to set your screen language to the language you prefer and then that's it. ----- Original Message ----- From: James <mailto:jamesodell@xxxxxxxxxxxx> O'Dell To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2005 11:48 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Screenreaders in other languages. Hi Does this mean that the Dolphin operating environment supports all those languages, or are we just talking about what the synthesiser can do? In JAWS for example, the eloquence speech synthesiser can speak around 11 languages, but this doesn't mean that you will get all of your messages, screen prompts etc in that language. Hi Kirsty, In a word, yes. What you normally require is the language specific speech software. You'll find an interesting item on, "Fluent Dutch" at, http://www.magnifiers.org/speech.shtml which also mentions other Dutch speech programs. The introduction of a Unicode version of JAWS (6.1) should make the use of alternative languages much easier to implement, though I can't comment on where the other screen readers are in terms of languages.
