What about me as an amateur, hope to be professional, technician? Surely I'd need a more powerful Windows than Home Premium? At least that's my reason to go pro anyway.

Don't blame the screen reader guys. It's the retail shops who really make more money selling Professional Versions of Windows. For "Professional" you should really read, "Secure Business Network User". In the real world, there are very few private users need the extra build-in security offered by Windows Professional, and even fewer really understand what it is all about. But charging to use a pro version of the OS - half the time the features that make the OS pro are not ones which the average joe blogs is going to use on a daily basis anyway! And often, machines with high tech specs will come with a Pro OS supplied. So, the user is penalised just for that? Also, what is a pro OS now anyway? One could say Vista Business or 7 Enterprise is a pro OS compared to Vista or 7 Home Premium, or is the pro just for the top version of the OS, i.e. Ultimate? _______________________________________ Have a pleasant day, Kind Regards and Best Wishes, Hussein. It is only JFW that perpetuatesthischarging for your operating system type. I've got a Toshiba Satellite T130 which has 2 GB of memory (and can take 1GB more), a 256 GB hard drive, wireless, Bluetooth and even a web cam, Windows 7 Premium, and weighs just over 3 pounds. And it cost just under £400 including VAT. I possess a Samsung N120 and like it a lot but it is still tooheavyfor me to tote around and use on the lap for long. Presumably you have to sacrifice hard disk memory for the lower weight? Memory is important as I am a user of a number of client software programmes and Jaws etc. I would like a notebook to ensure the keys are large enough.
