The Apple Watch is a no-go without an iPhone! You need an iPhone to set up the
Watch and to control some of the watches features, so if you do not have an
iPhone, this is an investment you would need to make before purchasing the
watch. Take care.

For tracking activity you wouldn't need the phone with you as to do those
things cellula is not required.
I'm currently using watch 4 with iphone se and it works fine.
