Keith,

 

There are at least a couple of free dictation programmes available – google has 
a fairly basic one and I heard the built-in one on Windows 10 is quite good 
quality. I don’t think either are particularly easy to set up without sighted 
hel though.

 

The other thing to remember whatever you try is that they will produce text 
without any punctuation . when you add that to the inevitable mistakes in 
transcription I think trying to read the resulting text is likely to be a 
fairly frustrating experience.

Don’t know how successful it would be, but the iPhone app Just Press Record 
converts speech into text. I use this at conferences and meetings. It should 
work if either placed near the speaker, or if a line in could be used. Hope 
that helps
