I think you need to contact Humanware about the length of warranty but unless
it is about to expire I would first of all try using an alternative SD Card to
see if the problem persists. It is possible that the Stream is being thrown
into a loop by read errors on the card that it cannot resolve.
If the problem continues even with a new card it is likely a hardware issue.
The bad news is that repairs from Humanware out of warranty are in my
experience prohibitively expensive, and in most cases I think you might as well
bite the bullet and buy a new unit where by you will at least get a complete
new warranty and possibly just use the old unit for battery replacement spare
etc.

Hello David
It sometimes turns off while I'm listening to a book without even
doing any time jumps.
How long is the warrantee?
Kind regards
Chantal

turn off unexpectedly but I don’t think either of these are random.
Firstly there appears to be a bug where repeated and rapid forward presses
of the 30 minute navigation level if you have that set will force a crash in
the Stream. This persisted on 2 Streams that I had. Unfortunately this
problem seems to have been carried over to the Trek also. The workaround is
to use another navigation level, such as Heading Level 1, or 10 minute, or
if you do use 30 minute forward jump, confine this to one push, and wait a
while before pushing it again. There does not seem an issue with 30 minute
back.
I do use big SD Carsds in both Stream and trek, 128GB so this may also b a
factor.
The second way a Stream may unexpectedly shut down will b if you have
disabled sleep announcement in settings and you have inadvertently pressed
the time/sleep button a couple of times. In such circumstances the
Stream/Trek will appear to shut down without cause.
If neither of these apply I would
1. Try replacing the SD card with another to check the Stream is not getting
hung up on a card error.
2.
If the Stream is under warranty and the problem persists – return it.
Finally if the Stream is not under Warranty it is possible to clear the Rom
completely and re-install the Firmware. Re-applying the firmware is easy –
you simply download from the Humanware site and put it on an SD card. I
would have to look up clearing the Rom from the Stream – it involves holding
down about 5 keys at once. According to what I have read clearing the Rom is
sometines necessary as junk files can build up there which a simple firmware
install may not clear.

Subject: [access-uk] Question about the 2nd gen Victor Reader
Good morning All
I just wanted to find out if other people are having problems with
their second gen Victor Readers that randomly just turn off. Not sure
why they do this or if there is a fix.
Kind regards
Chantal
