Wendy, Which version of the Audible software are you using? I have heard that the most recent version was very difficult to use with a screenreader. You might be better off uninstalling and finding an older version. I think Audible has older versions on their web site and if not I could send you a setup file for the version I am using which works relatively well with WE version 6.

I have found that sometimes shift tabbing out of the Audible software window and then shift tabbing back in again makes a difference particularly when trying to navigate dialogues. Also as far as I remember the menues aren't always read correctly but if you cursor down in to them the options do read.

Do you have the real player on your computer? If so you might find that easier to use as your playback device. With that you can certainly rewind and fast forward, as well as jump by time increments. Although not by sections. Control Left cursor, back, control right cursor forward, control e for jumping to a particular time.

Oh and finally, once you have the playback device that you want selected, you don't have to go into the audible software to load the book. If you go to the location where it is stored on your PC you can simply press enter on the file that you want to listen to which will launch either WMP, the real player or Audible's own player.

Does anyone else have the same trouble as I do trying to get books from
Audible to play? I use JAWS version 6.1, and have Windows Media Player 11.
I can't seem to find my way around either Audible Manager or Window Media
Player. Lots of the functions of WMP such as previous, next, forward, back,
etc, are said to be unavailable. I was listening to a book yesterday,
stopped it to listen to a radio programme, and when I started it up again it
went back to the beginning, and I could make it go to a certain chapter to
get to where I was before. When I first launch Audible Manager the books
list doesn't seem to be there. Cursoring up and down just gives me one
title with its details. Tabbing back and forth sometimes brings the list
up, but the titles are not read out, it just says selected, 4 of 11, which
is no help. I have to use JAWS cursor to search the screen and left click
on a title to start it playing, but even that doesn't always work. I have
been using computers for about eighteen years, and am certainly well used to
Windows and JAWS, so what on earth am I missing here? I have been through
the help screens for both Audible Manager and WMP, and they refer to menus
that don't appear to be there, such as the tools menu in Audible Manager.
