Right. I don't have a Windows 7 system at hand to check the exact steps to network adapters I'm afraid. But try accessing your ethernet adapter from device manager. Here's how to get to device manager on Windows 7 from Wikipedia- 1. Select Start from the bottom-left corner of your screen. 2. Choose Control Panel. 3. Select the first option called System and Security. 4. Select System. In this window there should be a general overview of your computer. 5. On the left hand side there is a list and near the top is the Device Manager. Click on this and it should list all the components installed on your computer. Once on the components list, arrow down to network adaptors, expand it, find your ethernet adaptor and right click it to make sure it is enabled and working ok. The suggestion of checking your router by restarting it, switching ports and/or connecting another machine to it is a good one to narrow down where the fault lies. I've a hunch though it will turn out to be Eset that is causing the trouble. Let us know how it goes. I'm using Windows 7 and when I go to the Network and sharing area I have my wireless connection listed but can't see how I can check whether my Ethernet connection has been disabled. If the first item on the context menu says enable then your connection adapter has got somehow disabled. If it is, just enable it. Now, if the local connection was enabled and fine, which is very likely if I am honest, then Eset may well be the culprit. I could not find how to unblock my network in Eset. I am pretty sure it is an accessibility issue. I was putting off asking for help on list on the principle of can't be bothered :-) Let us know how it goes with your network adapter. I do use Esset and looked around in the settings but couldn't see anything that might bear upon the situation - though if there was something there I probably wouldn't know it if I saw it! Another thing, what security software are you using? Could it be that your ethernet connection is blocked by your anti virus/firewall? I use Eset and I have a similar issue, I think, though it is with my wireless. For some reason this connection suddenly stopped working and I somehow got it running again using the wireless connection. I have obviously checked that the wire is properly connected to both PC and rooter. Can somebody please give me a simple step by step guide as to how I re-establish the wire connection or determine where the fault is. Thanks for any help.
